Statement:

This work is the result of a prolonged investigation of my immediate surroundings.  As a stage for the
daily routine, I found these spaces and the things they contained at once immensely familiar and visually
complex.  This encouraged serial thinking and enabled me to look upon the same subjects repeatedly, as if
viewing them for the first time.  The result was a body of work about focused vision, variation, and recognition.

Working directly from the motif allowed me the opportunity to deconstruct, filter, and rebuild the world
around me in arrangements of shape, tone, and color regardless of whether compositions were found or
constructed.  As such, I read the work as an engagement with the formal difficulties of creating an image and
as a celebration of the everyday, commonplace, and overlooked.
